Measuring a neck properly
Run a soft tape where the collar will actually sit — behind the ears, not down at the shoulders — and keep it snug rather than tight. Then add the width of two fingers. Every size below overlaps with the next, so if a measurement lands between two, take the larger and use the sliding bar.
Collar sizes
- XS — 22–30 cm. Chihuahuas, small terriers, most puppies from twelve weeks.
- S — 28–38 cm. Cockers, whippets, mini schnauzers.
- M — 34–46 cm. Border collies, springers, most crossbreeds.
- L — 42–56 cm. Labradors, boxers, standard poodles.
- XL — 40–66 cm, 30 mm wide only. Ridgebacks, shepherds, mastiff types.
Bandana sizes
Bandanas are sized by the collar they slide onto rather than by breed. XS fits a 20 mm collar up to 30 cm; XL fits a 30 mm collar up to 66 cm. If your dog is between sizes, the larger one sits lower on the chest, which most people prefer for long coats.
What it is made from
Everything on this page is cotton — mostly a 240 gsm brushed twill, sometimes a lighter poplin for summer prints. We wash and tumble every roll before cutting, which takes the shrinkage out in our machine rather than yours. Hardware is solid brass, not plated zinc: it will dull to a warm brown over a year or two and can be brought back with a cloth.
Washing
Machine wash at 30°, inside a mesh bag if the D-ring is likely to catch. Line dry. The brushed cottons soften considerably after three or four washes, which is when most people say the bandana finally sits the way they wanted.
